6 Reasons Why You Shouldn't Give Up on Your Blog

Blogging The Dream

Thousands of people chase the dream of starting a blog in pursuit of something they're passionate about. Sadly most of them will give up within the first year.

The question is, is there ever a good time to give up on blogging, drop everything and run for the hills?

Unfortunately not everyone has the time to spend blogging, and thinking up ideas, or is able to promote their blog they should to get the readership needed.

But fear not blogging friends, here .. are reasons why people give up on their blog:

Your Passion for Blogging Disappears

You start blogging because you have something to say about your favourite pastime, or you may have a business idea you want to try out.

You hear so many success stories and can't understand why your blog hasn't taken off yet.  I've been there, and understand how crushing it is, to be pouring your heart into something on a regular basis, and not have any good results.

Never give up on your blog when things get hard, blogs take time to mature, and grow.  Remember if you're in it for the money it's not a 'get rich quick' scheme.

Is it Worth Starting a Blog in the First Place?

Yes its always starting a blog if you're really passionate about something, perhaps the better route to take is to start as a hobby, then slowly build from there.

6 points to look out for before you think about giving up completely:

1. Are You Seeing Any Fruits of Your Labour?

Even small gains such as subscribers signing up is something.  This means people like what you're writing about, it could be that all you need to do is to make some minor alterations.

2. Has Your Blog Looked the Same Since Inception?

If your blog isn't appealing it will definitely show in your traffic numbers.  You need to start looking at simple things to give your blog a simple clean look that will appeal to your audience.  There's no harm in trying something different, if what you're doing isn't working anyway.  You need to start exploring new tactics before you start quitting.

3. Have You Put Any Money Into Marketing Your Blog?

There are lots of ways to promote your blog for free, and market your blog on a budget.  In today's social media driven world, advertising is a good way to promote your blog.  Many bloggers turn to advertising on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest to get their blog posts seen.

4. Have You Got a Blogging Plan?

When you started blogging did you plan it out first?  Simple things like a blogging schedule, and knowing that you have a string of blog post ideas at your fingertips, all help to create a smoothly run blog make the world of difference.

5. Are You Struggling With Writing Regular Blog Content?

The writing part can be the hardest part of all at times, especially when your life is busy.  Being able to churn out even one blog post a week can seem like a huge task.  Finding your blogging voice is difficult in itself, but sticking to your writing schedule can be even harder.

You need to learn how to sit down and concentrate on the task at hand (your blog post writing).  If you can do that regularly each week, your already half way there.

6. What It Comes Down To

Blogging is a long road that requires oodles of  patience, discipline and passion.  If you don't have any of these things already, you'll probably not get very far.

Points To Consider For Success

Most bloggers have wanted to quit a some point, because the journey is so arduous, but just by showing up everyday, and pushing through those hard times, and making the effort shows you want to make your blog successful.

Here are 3 points for a successful blog:

1.  You should enjoy what you're writing about, blogging is a slow journey, and  the results take a long time coming. Writing about something you love is easier than something your less passionate about.

2. Writing regularly, and making it feel like a job makes a big difference, than just blogging when you feel like it.  Content should be published consistently at the same time each week, so your readers know when to expect a post.

3. Blogging is a process, you'll find plenty of bumps in the road, but you need to be able to overcome the down times, and push forward to the good.

I started my blog way back in March of 2015, and have been put through the fire many times, but it's all been worth it.

Mistakes are okay, don't give up too early when your story is just starting.

  1. Blogging is a passion of mine and I've been doing it for about nine years now. I've never made a cent of it, but I don't think I'll ever stop - I need an outlet for my weirdness.
