Why You Don't Need Anyones Permission to be a Writer

You don't need to be attached to a publishing house to be called a writer.  We're living in a time with so many opportunities when it comes to writing, all thanks to the internet.  You can start your own blog for free and start publishing straight away.  That would make you a writer.  You could start self-publishing your own books on a platform such as Kindle Direct Publishing or Smashwords, that would make you a writer.

There is no special club you need to join if writing is your passion, nor do you need to enter competitions to be in that special club.

You already have permission to be the writer you want to be.

You may not find your path littered with awards or book deals, but you are a writer.

You'll always be worrying about anything you publish, be it books, or blog posts, because you're not going to please everyone that reads your work.

Self-doubt about your work will hang like a dark cloud throughout your writing career, but that comes with the territory.

You'll find hard times and happy times, and things you wished you could edit or write all over again, that will always be there.

The good news is you'll always have your writing, that's the one true constant.  You can always step back into your imagination, and daydreams, or be seeking new ideas for your nonfiction book.

Keep telling yourself you're good enough, and that all writers doubt themselves, it's par for the course.

Nobody Can Define Who You Are

The days of sitting around waiting for a publisher to notice you are disappearing slowly with people self-publishing their own books.  This gives you the power to choose who you want to be, and you don't need a publishing house to tell you you should be an author.  It's your chance to believe in yourself and know that you're good enough, and that ordinary people need to read your thoughts and stories.

You have the option to go it alone and do it your way.  Rejection is no longer on the agenda.

Technology has given you the opportunity to show people what you're made of, you can do your own social media campaigns, and be your own boss.

If Writing is Your Passion, Believe in Yourself and "Just Do It"

Write as much as you can as often as you can.  Write until all of your ideas run out.  Don't let anyone tell you you're not  a writer, because you are.

Most importantly, believe in yourself and your writing, and the world's your oyster.
