Why Blogging Isn't Dead, and the Best Current Blogging Platforms 2025

I launched this blog way back in 2015, and before social media really kicked in, when you only had blogs.  There were no social media posts full of people's lives, or online influencers.  Just everyday people talking about their lives, writing stories and selling stuff.

Once social media appeared on the scene life began to change, and not for the better.

But I digress, I'm here to tell you, as a blogger, that blogging isn't dead, in fact it's alive and kicking with plenty to say.

Let's take a look at the current options for blogging, free and paid.

Blogger

Since Blogger's inception in 1999, it has been a content platform used by many blogger's , myself included, for a long time.  There are no sign up fees, it has a range of easily customisable templates, and doesn't require any technical knowledge.

It's also worth noting that it is owned by Google, which enables a seamless integration with Google's services.

WordPress

WordPress.org and not .com is another preferred platform for many bloggers.  It has an easy to use interface which is good for beginners and people with little to no technical knowledge.  WordPress is an open source platform, and is continuously updating through its developers.

Wix

Wix is an instinctive platform with 900 free customisable blog templates, everything required to start a blog.  It also includes design options to grab a brand’s personality, along with SEO tools to grow organic search traffic, and monetization options like ads, online stores, and paid subscriptions.

Substack

Offering a subscription based model allowing writers and podcasters alike to effortlessly monetise their platform, it has revolutionised the world of blogging for many.

With the simple option of a paywall bloggers are empowered more than ever to create content that you can see, read and listen to.

Medium

A platform for writer's, Medium offers writers to collaborate and cross-promote their work.  A large emphasis is on quality writing and engagement and attracts writers looking for exposure and readership.

Squarespace

A huge blogging platform offering a user-friendly interface with a proper WYSIWYG editor, allowing bloggers to focus on creating content without worrying about coding knowledge.  For bloggers wanting to create a visually appealing website or author site.

LinkedIn

Not what you would naturally think of as a blogging platform, surprisingly LinkedIn has a feature that allows its members to publish articles, and showcase their expertise.  Well-suited for business owners, and content promotion.
