Writer Weight Gain, and What To Do About It

If you're healthy all around, you'll feel better, and if you feel better, you'll have a more positive outlook.  It's all connected.

Bridget Moynahan

We live in a world where weight gain has become a part of everyday life.  This is due to people's inactive lifestyles, a bad diet and the pressures of life.

Writer's are no different.

The Perfect World of Perfect Bodies

When you're surrounded by images of so-called perfection, and what the perfect body should look like, it's no wonder people get depressed and start eating.  Nobody's perfect, and there is no perfect body, because most of it is airbrushed these days (or an AI image).

So what can you do about it?

The Three Things You Need to Live a Healthy Life

1. A Good Diet

I've put this first because it stands to reason that what goes into your body should be the right stuff.  Of course in today's world that can be difficult.  A lot of people don't know how to cook, and are left with take-aways and ready-meals.

2. Regular Exercise

Just taking the time during the day to go out for a walk, run or head to a local gym.  Anything that will get the body activated and moving is good.  Start small and build up.

3. Positive Outlook

A positive outlook and smile will carry you a long way.  Sounds so simple, doesn't it?  Trying not to let life get in the way.

I like to look at the positive's and what you can do now to help you lose weight and stay in shape permanently.

Let's take a look at things you can add to your daily routine that will really make a difference, and help you build your strength up and keep the weight off.

Start Strength Training

I used to be a big gym goer, and that really helped with my daily exercise discipline.  But when covid kicked off I left my local gym, bought a gym mat and started walking in my local area.  We'll talk about walking a little further down.

I don't use weights anymore, I just do the "inchworm" exercise five days a week to keep my upper body toned, in shape, and work my abdominal muscles.  Exercise gets harder the older you get, but the satisfaction and results you get can't be measured.

Eat Slowly, and Don't Overeat

We live in a fast world, and tend to eat our meals quickly, which is really bad for the digestive system.  Eat slowly, take your time, take smaller bites.  Just slow your eating down.  Let your body do what it needs to do to digest your food.

Fasting

Fasting has been practiced throughout history. It is considered to be one of the most ancient healing and spiritual practices. Fasting has tremendous health benefits: physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Take Regular Walks

You don't need a treadmill to walk, just a comfortable pair of shoes and clothing to shield you from the inclement weather.  It's the way I stay in shape, keep myself sane, and use the time to think.  Walking gets your whole body moving, and is better than higher impact activities such as running or cycling.

Start small, 15-20 minute walks, and work your way to a regular hourly walk each day, and you'll find the effects and changes in your overall body health astounding.

Get a Good Night's Sleep

Sometimes we forget just what happens when we close our eyes at night.  The work the body does to repair itself, and maintain good health.  Lack of sleep can quickly lead to weight gain, piling on the pounds.

If you're struggling to start any kind of exercise. start small, and increase gradually.
