How Writing Can Make Your Life Better

I'm going to be honest with you and tell you that before I started writing my life was a bit of a mess.  This was due to the depression I was suffering and because I'd lost my way in life.

But, my writing story goes all the way back to the days when the internet was still developing and was a much simpler place.

But I digress.

What I realised early on was that you could make money writing, and creating your own blog.  I came across hundreds of people that were successfully blogging, and were creating their own businesses.  Self-publishing really took off and more and more people started making money as authors.

All of these things were done independently, which was a total revelation to me at the time.

So how has my time online, blogging and writing really changed my life?

Writing Gave Me Focus

When you feel like you're in a tailspin and you have no way of getting out, writing can give you focus.  What you need to do is figure out what you're most passionate about, and write about it.

Writing Brought Structure and Orderliness Back Into My Life

Like I mentioned earlier, there was a time when I was quite literally in freefall and everyday tasks that were once simple became difficult to keep up regularly.  Simple things like getting out of bed, and having a structured day were all alien to me.

Once I started writing it quickly became a daily habit. I found my best time for writing was night time, when it was quiet.  But more recently, my nightly writing routine has been slowly changed over to a more manageable morning routine.

Writing Opened Up New Doors

Writing can open many doors, depending on what your particular passion is.  In my case, I started writing, editing, and self-publishing my own books.

This opens up a new door to making money.

Writing Gave Me a New Kind of Freedom

These days most people work for companies where there's little to no way of expressing any kind of  creativity.  As well as working all hours that are asked of them, that can be anywhere up to 70 or even 80 hours a week.

Imagine putting the creative time that will build an income that doesn't require working yourself to death.  Being able to build up your business, and work the hours you want to work, and not what someone else tells you you should be working.

Well that's the kind of freedom I'm talking about.  Are you working to live or living to work?

Oh and did I mention all of the other plus points that come when you start writing?

Let's take a look.

Writing opens up a variety of opportunities based on your skill level and interest.  It can open doors to new career prospects and allows you to create everything from fiction to movie scripts.  Basically, the skies the limit!

What Skills Do Writers Have?

Because writing is so rich and diverse, you pick up these skills along the way:

  • Editing
  • Researching
  • Being creative
  • Better communication

In the long-term, writing can also be used as a means of therapy, helping you focus on the things that really matter in life.

On the other hand, if you're interested in making money you can achieve that too.

If either of these options sound like something you'd like to incorporate into your life you can contact me for a writing advice session here.
