Why You Need a Writing Coach

Being a writer is a very peculiar sort of job: It’s always you versus a blank sheet of paper (or a blank screen) and quite often the blank piece of paper wins.

Neil Gaiman

It doesn't matter if you're just starting out as a writer or if you've been doing it for years, writing is a hard craft to master.  Especially when you're doing it by yourself.  That's where a writing coach steps in.

A writing coach is there for you when you really need a boost, a little inspiration, getting that book published.

A lot of writing coaches are published writers themselves and can help iron out the finer details, and help with everything from outlines, story plots to publishing.

What Can a Writing Coach Do For Me?

1. Open Doors and Find New Opportunities

As well as polishing your writing and helping you finish your book, a writing coach can help you find opportunities within the world of writing, and help you get your work traditionally published.

2. Help With Your Publishing Plan

Once your book has been published the process of marketing starts, and that can be a bit daunting if you don't know where to begin.  That's where a writing coach can help you take the next step.  Helping you put together a plan to get your book noticed, and show you the best route to take.

3. Will Keep the Faucet Turned On

Start writing, no matter what. The water does not flow until the faucet is turned on.

Louis L Amour.

One of my favourite writing quotes, which simply means that a writing coach will keep your ideas flowing even when things have ground to a halt.  They'll be your cheerleader in the tough times.

4. Give You a Different Approach

If you have an idea but can't seem to get it started, and want help, but not sure why you can't get past your problem.  A writing coach can change your perspective, give you a fresh set of eyes and tell you if you need to make improvements to your story or nonfiction.

5. Experience Speaks for Its Self

There's a lot to be said for experience, especially if someone has been in your shoes before.  Allowing you to get over the problem and move on to the next thing.
